A new collaboration with REAL (reading educational assistance learning) in Lynn! The REAL Program, Inc. is a newly formed non-profit organization whose primary aim is to improve literacy for school-age children. The founder, Jan Plourde of Beverly, works with gifted and dedicated retired professionals, especially teachers, who mentor college and high school students as they work together with the young children in the program. This service-learning program focuses on teaching reading and providing access to books and enrichment opportunities. The REAL Program works closely with Gordon College, Montserrat College of Art, Endicott College, North Shore Community College, the Lynn Boys and Girls Club, and My Brother’s Table.
On February 12th Brio conducted a workshop with REAL kids in Lynn. After an hour of constructive play, the kids were more than ready to get to their homework. Stay tuned for more news on REAL and check out their website therealprogram.org
