Brio Integrated Theatre is happy to announce the release of the movie “The Portal”; a film written by two students Nick Stavre from the LABBB Collaborative at Burlington High School and Alex Sturm from Winchester High School. The first part of the film was made possible through a CHNA 15 grant which funded a program entitled “Lights, camera, Action!” a yearlong series of improvisational workshops that introduced students with special needs from Burlington High School LABBB to filmmaking, idea development, screenwriting, editing, and cinematography. In order to complete the film a Kickstarter campaign was launched and was successful in raising the needed funds to finish the production.
The Portal is a heart-warming comedy/fantasy film about friendship and accepting the differences in ourselves and others. This project includes 50 participants from Burlington, Winchester and Woburn (film crew, costume design, props, editing, writing, music, research) The film features 21 actors with special needs from the LABBB Collaborative at Burlington High School and interns from Winchester High School and from NUPATH in Woburn. The film also includes technical support from local cable access stations BCAT In Burlington and WINCAM in Winchester, MA.
