“Especially for Me” Sensory-Friendly Museum Event at the Discovery Museum

April 4, 2017 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

$12.50

Especially for Me: Sensory-Friendly Afternoons

Explore both museums during this special free early afternoon for families with children on the autism spectrum. During these special Sensory-Friendly hours, although the museum is open to the public, they will not have school groups or birthday parties, avoiding overcrowding and supporting accessibility of exhibits. Quiet spaces are available during this time as well.

You can prepare for your visit by downloading the Story Guide to Discovery Woods and visiting the Exhibits section of our website.

Pre-registration is required; space is limited.

Location: Both Museums and Discovery Woods

Cost: Free with pre-registration

The Especially for Me event series offers dedicated hours and free museum admission for families facing developmental challenges. During these events, we offer accommodations that increase access to museum exhibits and provide an opportunity for families to network with one another in an understanding environment. The event titles indicate the types of accommodations provided, but any family that would benefit from the accommodations is welcome.
In 2017 we will offer 25 Especially for Me events, including:

  • Autism-friendly evenings
  • Sensory-friendly afternoons
  • Mornings for families of deaf, hard of hearing, and KODA infants and toddlers
  • Evenings for families of deaf, hard of hearing, and KODA children
  • Visually impaired family evenings

All are events free, but require pre-registration online through the links below, so that we can plan appropriately. Dinner, including gluten-free options, is available at all evening events.
