We will be partnering with DAC (Disability Action Commission). Members will be on hand to share information about disability related resources in Winchester. The “New Kids on the Block Puppets” will highlight disability issues. We will having a Community Drum Jam at Crawford Memorial Church from 10:30-12:30pm and then come by the market for a special interactive drum jam at 12:45pm. We also will be doing arts and crafts.
There will be a number of ability awareness activities for kids throughout the day. This year, volunteers from Winchester High School’s “Best Buddies” and “Connect and Commit” organizations will help staff the DAC table and serve as DAC Ability Awareness ambassadors. As a special bonus, the DAC will offer a free raffle for visitors to its table — a New England Patriots “Build-a-Bear.” This is no ordinary bear. He has mobility challenges too and comes equipped with his own customized wheelchair. In addition to Ability Awareness Day, October 7 is Winchester’s Community Organization Fair. Our tables will be easy to spot. On the Common, near the parking lot, the DAC will showcase the MV-1 universally accessible vehicle. The MV-1 is manufactured specifically to transport persons with mobility challenges. Come check it out.
