April is Autism Awareness Month and we will posting throughout the month videos and resources about autism. Books are a great way to learn about autism and help those with autism understand how to maneuver around this world.

Book-LoveAnthony-13547381Featuring books like Love Anthony, from the award-winning New York Times bestselling author Lisa Genova, is a heartfelt novel about an accidental friendship that gives a grieving mother a priceless
gift: the ability to understand the thoughts of her eight-year-old autistic son and make sense of his brief life.

Following Ezra: What One Father Learned About Gumby, Otters, Autism, and Love From His Extraordinary Son by Tom Fields-Meyer. A story full of tender moments and unexpected humor, Following Ezra is the story of a father and son on a ten-year journey from Ezra’s diagnosis to the dawn of his adolescence. It celebrates his growth from a remote toddler to an extraordinary young man, connected in his own remarkable ways to the world around him.

CuriousincidentofdoginnighttimeAnd the mystery The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. The novel is narrated in the first-person perspective by Christopher John Francis Boone, a 15-year-old boy who describes himself as “a mathematician with some behavioural difficulties” living in Swindon, Wiltshire. Although Christopher’s condition is not stated, the book’s blurb refers to Asperger syndrome, high-functioning autism, or savant syndrome. In July 2009, Haddon wrote on his blog that “Curious Incident is not a book about asperger’s….if anything it’s a novel about difference, about being an outsider, about seeing the world in a surprising and revealing way.”
